IWhat we are proposing

One system, rather than nine separate labels

Your brief asks for a master template that carries the whole range, where only the product name, the collection, the colour, the illustration and the wording change from one product to the next. We think that instinct is exactly right, and everything in this proposal is built around it.

Designing it as one system means the range sits together comfortably on a shelf or a market table, and it means every product you add in future takes a small fraction of the time and cost of the first one.

Your brief also leaves a couple of things open. Some of the wording on the teas and the yoni steam falls under South African labelling rules and needs a careful hand. And the QR code you have made space for does not yet have anywhere to point. We have included both here, so that neither turns into a separate piece of work later on.

Nothing here is fixed. If any part of it does not feel like House of Bliss, we would rather hear that early and adjust.

This proposal is written so that it can be read on its own by a funder. Every item is priced separately, and any item can be approved or set aside without the rest needing to be quoted again.

IIThe system

What stays the same, and what changes

COLLECTION 2 3 4 5 LOGO 1
  • 1
The logo, its size and its positionIdentical on every product, with a set amount of clear space around it.
  • 5
The required informationNet contents, directions, ingredients, storage, warnings, date and your details. Always in the same place, always at the same size.
  • 5
The grid, margins and type sizesThe quiet measurements that make nine different products look like one family.
  • 2
The collection band and its colourThree collections, three accents drawn from your own palette.
  • 3
The botanical illustrationOne plant for each product, all drawn in the same hand.
  • 4
The product name and descriptionThe only wording that changes shape from one label to the next.

The items marked in sage stay the same on all nine products. The items marked in gold are the ones that move. Deciding carefully where that line falls is most of the work, and everything else follows from it.

IIIThe illustration style

A plant for every product, drawn in one hand

The plates below show the drawing style we would like to use across the range. Fine botanical line work in the manner of an old herbarium sheet, each plant rendered with the same weight of line and the same restraint, so that nine very different products still read as one family. Each product in the range receives its own plate.

i
Lavender
Lavandula angustifolia
Restore
ii
Purple coneflower
Echinacea purpurea
Bloom
iii
Lengana
Artemisia afra
Rooted

Drawn as vector line work, which means each plate stays crisp whether it appears on a 40 mm soap wrap or a pull-up banner at a market.

IVThe template at work

One template, seen across three collections

Every label below comes out of a single file. The measurements, the type sizes and the position of each element never move. Only the colour, the plant and the words change. Choose a collection to see it.

What these show is the structure rather than the finished artwork. The proportions, the order of information and the way a collection reads at a glance are all real and would carry through. The finished labels are drawn to your actual container sizes and developed together with you, so please read these as a starting conversation rather than a design waiting for approval.

Restore

Sage & soft gold

  • Botanical Bath Salts
  • Soy Massage Candle
  • Botanical Glycerine Soap

Bloom

Royal purple & ivory

  • Women’s Herbal Tea
  • Women’s Yoni Steam
  • Organic Pads

Rooted

Warm gold & sand

  • Lengana Tea
  • Dandelion & Lemon Verbena
  • Men’s Herbal Tea

Your brief mentions Restore, Bloom and Rooted as a possibility and we would like to make them real. Grouping the range gives someone standing at your table an easy way in, it settles the colour question for every product at once, and it gives you three gift sets that can be sold together at a kinder margin than the products sold one by one. The groupings above are a starting point and they are yours to move.

Label Content Guide

One of these comes with every product. It sets out what has to appear on the label, which wording sits comfortably within the rules, and where it would be wise to get an independent opinion before printing. Here is a real worked example so you can see the shape of it.

Label Content Guide · 04 of 09

Women’s Herbal Tea

Product category
A foodstuff. It moves into complementary medicine territory as soon as a health benefit is claimed for it.
Must appear
Product name · net contents in grams · full ingredient list in descending order by mass · directions for use · storage · manufacturing or best-before date · manufacturer name and physical address · country of origin
Sits comfortably
“A warming herbal blend” · “traditionally taken for comfort” · “naturally caffeine free”
Use advisedly
“Detox” reads as a health claim. “Cleanses”, “treats” and “balances hormones” carry the same weight. Each of them can move the product into a regulated medicine category, which brings requirements you may not want yet.
Suggested warning
Not suitable during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Please speak to a healthcare practitioner if you are taking medication.
We will need from you
The complete ingredient list with botanical names, and confirmation of anything that could be an allergen.
Worth a second opinion
Whether the blend as you have formulated it needs complementary medicine registration. We will flag it. We are not the right people to rule on it.

VIScope and cost

What each part costs

The work comes to 102 hours in total. Every item below shows the hours it takes, charged at R650 an hour. The hours multiplied by the rate give the price of that item, and the items added together give the total. Tick or untick the optional items to see the total change.

Needed to reach 3 October
Brand foundationSorting the nine products into collections, naming them, giving each a colour, settling the illustration style, choosing the two typefaces and their sizes, and writing a short description for each product.12R7 800
The label design and its rulesDesigning the label itself: the layout, the grid, the type sizes, and the written rules that hold all nine products to the same shape. Built out for every container format in the range, such as a pouch, a jar and a soap wrap.14R9 100
Setting up the nine products in itPlacing each product’s own name, wording, illustration and colour into that design, then checking every one at the size it will actually be printed. This is filling in the design, rather than designing it again.14R9 100
Print preparation and printer liaisonTurning the approved design into files the press can use, with bleed and colour set to your printer’s specification, and checking proofs before the run. Handled by a specialist we bring in.8R5 200

Nine product pages behind the QR codesOne page for each product, carrying the full directions for use, the ingredient list, the warnings that will never fit on a small pouch, and a way to reorder. These sit behind the QR code printed on every label, so they are needed before the labels are printed rather than after. They are published at products.houseofbliss.co.za, which takes one DNS entry and leaves your current site untouched. First year of hosting included.10R6 500

VIIDelivery

Twelve weeks, working back from one fixed date

Our Origin Festival opens on 16 October, and product needs to be labelled and packed by 3 October. Working backwards from there, this is the schedule that reaches it comfortably.

VIIIHow we would work together

The practical arrangements

Payment

A third when you accept, a third when you approve the designs, and a third when the final files are handed over. Each stage is something a funder can see and verify.

Who owns what

All the final approved artwork and print files made for House of Bliss are yours, permanently and exclusively, including the freedom to hand them to another designer at any time. We keep the underlying methods and working templates that are not specific to House of Bliss.

Changes

Two rounds of revision are included at each approval stage. Anything changed after written approval is quoted separately at R650 an hour.

Where we stand on the rules

We point out wording that carries risk and set out what each label needs to contain. We do not give legal or regulatory advice and we cannot certify that a label complies. The ingredient lists, directions, warnings and all product claims come from House of Bliss.

Not included here

  • Printing and label production
  • Containers and packaging materials
  • Product photography
  • Barcode registration
  • Regulatory certification
  • Trademark searches or registration
  • Domain registration and annual renewal
  • Any product beyond the nine listed

What we would need from you
